A Message From Your Hygienists

April is Oral Cancer Awareness Month

Oral cancer, which is any abnormal growth and spread of cells occurring in the mouth cavity, is the 13th most common type of cancer in Canada. Although highly treatable with a five year survival rate of 63 percent, early detection is key. Risk factors include age, smoking, alcohol, gender, diet, sun exposure and HPV. It is important to have regular dental appointments to ensure you are receiving proper oral cancer screenings on a regular basis.

Pre-Med

Do you require a pre-medication prior to your dental appointments? If you have had open heart surgery or joint replacement, please inform your dental professional as you may be required to take a pre-medication for at least two years post surgery.
