April 2012: Tips, eNews and More!

If March was any indication of how this summer is going to look maybe we should skip spring this year. On second thought, spring is a crowd pleaser among many in the office. It's not too hot, not too cold, it is kind of the baby bear of the seasons.

Spring is a time of rebirth and rejuvenation. In the past we talked about spring cleaning around the home: this year we'd like to suggest a little spring cleaning for.. yourself! When was your last visit to your family doctor for a physical, your eye doctor, your ear doctor, and wink, wink, nudge, nudge, our office. You've got a lot going on in your busy schedule, but you should always make time for your health!

April is Oral Health Month
Regular visits to our office for cleanings and dental exams are an integral part of your health care. Your mouth often presents early warning signs of health, and contributes significantly to your comfort, confidence and overall well being.

The Canadian Dental Association offers these five Steps to Good Oral Health:
  1. See your dentist regularly
  2. Keep your mouth clean
  3. Eat, drink, but be wary
  4. Check your mouth regularly
  5. Avoid all tobacco products

Accessibility
On January 1, 2012, the Customer Service Standard of the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005 (AODA) came into force. The AODA is a law passed by the Ontario Legislature that lays the framework for the development and enforcement of mandatory Accessibility Standards, which collectively aim to identify, remove and prevent barriers to accessibility. The Office of Dr. Jordan Benedict is in compliance with this legislation.

If you have any questions about our policy or wish to provide feedback regarding the way Dr. Benedict provides goods and services to persons with disabilities, please contact Nancy at the office at 905-885-5303 or dentistry@porthopedental.com.

Dr. Benedict would like to celebrate National Dental Hygienist week April 8 - 14. As you know, we are so lucky to have a great team of hygienists in our office.
Thank you Jessica & Laura for the fantastic job you do!

The Spa Dent teeth whitening system is now available at Dr. Jordan Benedict's Port Hope Dental Office. With this in-office whitening system, teeth may whiten 2 - 8 shades in as little as 30 minutes. Spa Dent whitening uses a cool blue and red LED light that activates the product, whitening your teeth deeper and faster for longer lasting results. There is virtually no sensitivity.

We recommend that you get your teeth cleaned before getting the whitening done for best results. Click here!

Why Have Your Teeth Cleaned?

Proper oral hygiene is important not only for your appearance, but also for your overall health. Improper oral hygiene may lead to infection, gum disease, bone and tooth loss, circulation and cardiovascular disease, and even strokes.

Why is cleaning part of good oral hygiene?

Oral Cancer
As part of the cleaning, you are also screened for oral cancer, which is curable if diagnosed and treated early.

Gum Disease
If gum disease is diagnosed early, it can be reversed through treatment. Gum disease is caused by infection in the gum tissue and bone, eventually leading to tooth loss. Regular dental cleanings – and check ups – help to prevent gum disease.
